PARRY SOUND POWER AND SAIL SQUADRON
LOCAL VOLUNTEERS TEACHING BOATING SAFETY SINCE 1961
A Unit of Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons/Escadrilles Canadiennes de Plaisance
Where We Are:
Parry Sound is the largest natural harbour on the Great Lakes. The Sound, on the eastern shore of Georgian Bay in the heart of the 30,000 Islands, has more than five by six nautical miles of open water, more than 300 feet deep. Known locally as The Big Sound, it offers every possible convenience for boaters, without compromising the spectacular beauty of Northern Ontario. It is accessible from the north via Red Rock, and from the south through the picturesque South Channel. By land, the Sound is accessible directly from the Town of Parry Sound, only two hours from downtown Toronto on Highway 400. Three public ramps are available for launching your boat.

|
Our shoreline is dotted with marinas where visitors are greeted with courtesy and Northern Ontario hospitality. Visitors to the Town of Parry Sound itself will find excellent docks and laundry and shower facilities at the Big Sound Marina, and six other marinas within two nautical miles, offering repairs, fuel, and other services. |
The Chief Port Captain for Parry Sound
Squadron is John Shipman, owner of the
historic Sound Boat Works, on the eastern
shore of the harbour. You can reach him on
Channel 68, by email Port Captain or by
telephone at (705) 746-2411. Our Port Captains
cover the area from Lake Joseph to Britt, so you
will find a friendly face wherever you land.

Who We Are:
We are a unit of Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS), a nationwide organization of boating enthusiasts, with more than 200 members in the Parry Sound Area. We work to increase boating safety and enjoyment by providing instruction in all phases of seamanship and navigation, both power and sail. Except for a small paid support staff in Canadian headquarters, all teaching and administrative work is done by volunteers. CPS is non-governmental, non-regulatory and non-military. It is not restricted to boat owners. Purely and simply, we are a dedicated group of volunteers interested in increasing safety and pleasure on the waterways, through training.
